The game started off rocky for the North Carolina squad as they managed only five points in the opening quarter compared to Virginia Tech's twenty-one. However, they found their rhythm in the second quarter with twenty-two points but still trailed behind at halftime. The third quarter saw an improved performance from UNC with twenty more points added to their tally but was overshadowed by Virginia Tech's dominant twenty-four-point play during that period. In a final push, UNC scored fifteen points in the last quarter but it wasn't enough to close down on Virginia Tech's seventeen.

Statistically speaking, North Carolina had a field goal percentage of thirty-nine and was slightly more successful from beyond the arc with a three-point shooting percentage of twenty-nine. From two-point range, they shot forty-three percent and were solid from the free-throw line making seventy-three percent of their attempts. They fought hard under both baskets securing six offensive rebounds and seventeen defensive ones for a total rebound count of twenty-seven.

On offense, UNC recorded nine assists but also turned over possession seven times throughout this intense conference game. Their defense managed five steals and blocked two shots while committing eighteen personal fouls; one player unfortunately reached foul-out status.

In contrast, Virginia Tech displayed remarkable efficiency on offense with fifty-three percent field goal shooting including thirty-two percent from three-point land and an outstanding eighty-one percent free throw accuracy which contributed significantly to their victory margin.

Conte Forum located in Chestnut Hill MA 02467 USA on February 29th at 7:00 PM Eastern Time Zone (ET).
