Tar Heels Edge Spartans in Nail-Biter at Colonial Life Arena

This defensive effort was complemented by an impressive rebounding performance from UNC who dominated with a total of 45 rebounds; significantly higher than MSU's count of 27.


Offensively for North Carolina Tar Heels, field goal attempts were frequent and fruitful; they attempted a total of 59 shots from which they made an effective rate of about forty-one percent. Their two-point attempts were particularly notable as they made twenty-one out of forty-nine attempts resulting in approximately forty-three percent success rate.

Both teams had similar assists-to-turnover ratios but it was UNC who edged slightly ahead with a ratio of about one point fifteen compared to MSU's even one point zero ratio.


The battle inside painted areas saw North Carolina scoring thirty-six points within close range while Michigan State managed twenty-four such points indicating how critical interior play was during this encounter.
