The game at Colonial Life Arena saw the home team, the South Carolina Gamecocks, take control from the outset. They established an early lead with a commanding performance in the first quarter and maintained their dominance throughout. The North Carolina Tar Heels struggled to find their rhythm against a formidable opponent. Despite their efforts, they were unable to close the gap that had been set early on.

The Tar Heels' offensive efforts were led by their field goals made count of 15 out of 63 attempts, resulting in a shooting percentage of just 24 percent from the field. From beyond the arc, they managed to convert only three out of eighteen attempts which amounted to a three-point shooting percentage of 17 percent. Inside paint was where they scored 18 points but it wasn't enough to challenge their opponents significantly.

Defensively, both teams recorded seven blocks each during gameplay but this statistic was overshadowed by other aspects where the Gamecocks excelled. The steals count for UNC stood at four compared to thirteen for South Carolina which contributed greatly to turnovers and fast break opportunities for them.

Rebounding was another area where UNC fell short; they gathered a total of thirty-three rebounds - sixteen defensive and twelve offensive - while South Carolina dominated with fifty-four rebounds in total which included thirty-two defensive and fourteen offensive rebounds.

In terms of assists-turnover ratio, it was clear that ball handling posed issues for UNC as they posted an assists-turnover ratio of just 0.33 compared to South Carolina's more efficient ratio at 1.55 due largely in part because UNC committed eighteen turnovers over six assists given during playtime.
