Can the North Texas Mean Green Outmaneuver the SMU Mustangs at Moody Coliseum?

The North Texas Mean Green women's basketball team is gearing up for a riveting encounter against the SMU Mustangs at Moody Coliseum. With an impressive recent performance, UNT has given fans plenty to be optimistic about. The question on everyone's mind: Can they carry this momentum into their upcoming game on January 17th?

North Texas Mean Green VS SMU Mustangs

In their last showdown on January 14th, UNT emerged victorious over the Wichita State Shockers with a nail-biting finish, clinching a win by just four points in a high-scoring final quarter. Their resilience was evident as they turned around a game that was neck and neck into a 72-68 triumph. The Mean Green showcased their offensive prowess by shooting an impressive 60 percent from inside the arc and maintaining an overall field goal percentage of 48 percent.

UNT's ability to dominate in points in the paint stood out as they racked up 38 compared to Wichita State's 26. This inside strength could be pivotal when facing SMU, whose defensive strategies will undoubtedly be tested by UNT's aggressive play under the basket.

Another aspect that might give UNT an edge is their free throw accuracy which was solid at 72 percent against Wichita State. In tight games, converting from the charity stripe can make all the difference and it seems UNT has honed this skill effectively.

Looking back further to January 7th against Florida Atlantic Owls, UNT demonstrated sheer dominance with an emphatic scoreline of 86-52. Their remarkable two-point field goal percentage of 71 percent and overall field goal percentage of 60 percent were instrumental in this comprehensive victory.

However, it would be remiss not to acknowledge some areas for improvement before facing SMU; turnovers have been somewhat of an Achilles heel for UNT with significant numbers in recent games – something they'll need to tighten up if they are to suppress any counterattacks from SMU.

The Mustangs will certainly pose challenges; however, based on recent performances where consistency and clutch play have been key factors for UNT, there is every reason for optimism among fans that their team can secure another win away from home.

As we look ahead with anticipation towards what promises to be an enthralling contest between these two teams, fans should mark their calendars for January 17th at Moody Coliseum where tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM local time (Central Time). For those who can't make it in person but are eager not to miss any action-packed moments – tune into your local sports network or stream online as these fierce competitors battle it out on court.
