From the opening quarter, the Ohio State Buckeyes set an aggressive pace with a substantial lead of 24 points against the Lakers' 11. The home team's momentum continued into the second quarter adding another 19 points to their tally while holding their opponents to just eight. By halftime, it was clear that Ohio State was in firm control of the game.

The third quarter saw no respite for Grand Valley State as they trailed with an additional 13 points compared to Ohio's consistent scoring spree adding another 18 points. Entering into the final stretch of play in the fourth quarter, although outscored by five points with only twelve on board for Ohio against seventeen from Grand Valley State, it was too little too late for any hopes of a comeback from the visiting team.

A key factor in this game was turnovers; The Buckeyes capitalized on mistakes made by their opponents converting them into an impressive total of thirty-four points off turnovers. In contrast, Grand Valley managed only eight points from this aspect. Furthermore, Ohio displayed superior defensive skills throughout as evidenced by their twenty-two steals over seven from Grand Valley.

Offensively speaking, both teams had similar assist numbers at nine each but differed greatly in shooting accuracy; The Buckeyes had a field goal percentage of forty-one percent and were particularly effective from free throw range hitting eighty percent of their shots. Meanwhile, despite making more attempts within two-point range than three-pointers (fifty-three versus ten), they only converted one three-pointer throughout all four quarters.

On individual performances for Ohio: players excelled across various aspects such as fast break scoring where fifteen fast break points were recorded and second-chance opportunities which yielded eleven additional points due to offensive rebounds and persistence under pressure.
