In front of a crowd of 7,601 at Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio, it was clear from tip-off that both teams were determined to leave everything on the court. The Buckeyes set an aggressive tone early on by securing more rebounds than their opponents. With a total rebound count of 41 compared to Michigan State's 36, they established control over both ends of the floor. This dominance was particularly evident in defensive rebounds where Ohio State pulled down 34 against Michigan State's 27.

Ohio State also excelled in scoring within the paint. They racked up an impressive total of 38 points from close range shots which underscored their strategic focus on high-percentage plays. Their shooting accuracy was superior overall; they achieved a field goal percentage of forty-seven percent and were especially effective from two-point range where they shot fifty-one percent.

The Buckeyes' defense proved formidable as well with seven blocks throughout the game – significantly higher than Michigan State's two blocks – showcasing their ability to disrupt Spartan attempts at scoring. Additionally, Ohio State capitalized on turnovers by scoring eight points off these opportunities.

Assists are often indicative of teamwork and flow within an offense; here too Ohio State had a slight edge with fourteen assists compared to thirteen by Michigan State. However, it wasn't just about passing precision but also ball security for Ohio State as evidenced by zero team turnovers which speaks volumes about their composed play under pressure.

Michigan State did not go down without demonstrating resilience and skill themselves; they made twenty-five field goals out of sixty-six attempts resulting in thirty-eight percent shooting accuracy. From beyond the arc though, they struggled somewhat only converting five out of twenty-one three-point attempts into points which amounted to twenty-four percent success rate from long distance.

Despite these challenges faced by Michigan state including personal fouls totaling nineteen against fifteen for Ohio state ,they managed to keep pace through sheer effort reflected in fast break points and second chance points although trailing behind slightly with three fast break points and seven second chance points versus six and six respectively for OSU .
