Oregon State Beavers: Can They Rebound After USC Setback?

The Oregon State Beavers, ranked 11th, faced a challenging contest against the 10th-ranked Trojans at Gill Coliseum. The home side's record now stands at 0-1 after a hard-fought game that ended with the visitors edging out a victory with a final score of 58-50. Despite their best efforts, the Beavers could not overcome the Trojans' defense and offensive execution.


Oregon State Beavers VS USC Trojans

The game saw the Trojans take an early lead in the first quarter, putting up 14 points to Oregon State's 8. The second quarter was more evenly matched with both teams scoring 12 points each. However, it was in the third quarter where USC began to pull away by adding another 18 points to their tally compared to Oregon State's consistent performance of adding another dozen. In a valiant effort during the fourth quarter, both teams scored high again with Oregon State matching USC's intensity by putting up another strong performance of scoring an additional 18 points.


Oregon State showcased some notable statistics despite falling short on the scoreboard. They recorded four blocks and four steals while dishing out an impressive number of assists at thirteen for this encounter. Their field goal percentage stood at thirty-three percent from fifty-eight attempts and they were successful on seventy-eight percent of their free throws from nine attempts.


One area where Oregon State excelled was in their assist-to-turnover ratio which stood at a commendable figure of one point forty-four compared to USC’s zero point eighty-eight; however, turnovers were still an issue for them as they gave up ten possessions throughout the game.


On offense, Oregon State made nineteen field goals including five three-pointers but struggled beyond the arc shooting only twenty-two percent from three-point range. Inside paint proved more fruitful as they scored twenty points but fell short against USC’s twenty-four.


Defensively speaking, rebounds told part of tonight’s story; while personal rebounds amounted to thirty-one for Oregon State and team rebounds were five - totaling thirty-six - it wasn't enough against USC’s commanding fifty-one total rebounds which included fifteen offensive boards contributing significantly to their second-chance opportunities leading them to score twenty second-chance points.
