The Owls found their rhythm in the second quarter, putting up an impressive 21 points and demonstrating their ability to compete at high levels. Despite this surge, they trailed behind LSU's consistent scoring.

On offense, Rice had thirteen assists but struggled with ball control which led to eighteen turnovers; still maintaining an assist-turnover ratio just below one (0.72). They fought hard under both baskets pulling down twenty-nine rebounds - fifteen defensive and fourteen offensive - yet it wasn't enough against LSU's forty-two total rebounds.
