San Diego State Edges Boise State in a Nail-Biter at Mountain West Semifinal
In a closely contested Mountain West semifinal, the San Diego State Aztecs emerged victorious with a final score of 72-69 over the Boise State Broncos. The Aztecs' season record now stands at an impressive 1-0, while the Broncos fall to 0-1.
The game was held at Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, where both teams fought hard from start to finish. The Aztecs started strong with 16 points in the first quarter and maintained their momentum throughout the game. Their scoring was consistent across all quarters, adding another 20 points in both the second and third periods before closing out with another 16-point effort in the fourth.
The San Diego State team showcased their offensive skills by shooting an efficient 56 percent from two-point range and securing a total of 34 points inside the paint. Their free throw performance was solid as well, making 70 percent of their shots from the line. Despite struggling beyond the arc with only a 14 percent success rate for three-pointers, they managed to keep ahead on the scoreboard.
Defensively, San Diego State also stood out by grabbing a total of 34 rebounds – including five offensive boards that contributed to eight second-chance points. They were active on defense as well, recording seven steals and four blocks during playtime.
A key factor for SDSU's win was their ability to capitalize on turnovers; they scored an impressive number of points off turnovers:14 while committing fewer themselves (nine). This careful ball handling resulted in an assists turnover ratio of 1.44.
On Boise State's side, despite falling short on scoring compared to SDSU's performance across all quarters (15-14-22-18), they put up a strong fight throughout each period. The Broncos had better accuracy from three-point land hitting five out of fourteen attempts which translates into a higher three-point percentage than SDSU at thirty-six percent but it wasn't enough to secure victory against their opponents' overall efficiency.
Looking forward for fans of San Diego State Aztecs is another exciting matchup as they will be playing away against UNLV Lady Rebels at Thomas & Mack Center located in Las Vegas on March thirteenth at seven-thirty PM Pacific Time zone which can be watched live on CBS Sports Network.
