San Jose State Spartans Face California Golden Bears at Haas Pavilion in Women's Basketball Showdown

In a recent women's basketball game at Haas Pavilion, the San Jose State Spartans faced off against the California Golden Bears. The Spartans entered the game with an unblemished record but were handed their first defeat by the Golden Bears, ending with a score of 51-74.


San Jose State Spartans VS California Golden Bears

The San Jose State Spartans started strong in the first quarter, scoring 11 points but trailed as the Golden Bears notched up 24 points. The second quarter saw a dip in performance from the Spartans with only nine points scored compared to 15 by their opponents. After halftime, they improved slightly, adding another 14 points in the third quarter and finishing strong with 17 points in the fourth. However, this was not enough to close down on California's consistent scoring across all quarters.


The Spartans showcased some impressive statistics despite their loss. They had a two-point shooting percentage of about 54 percent and were particularly effective from the free-throw line with an accuracy of approximately 86 percent. They also managed to score more than half of their total points inside the paint, tallying up to 26 paint points.


Defensively though, San Jose State struggled as they accumulated a total of 23 personal fouls and turned over possession on numerous occasions which led to eight points for California off turnovers. On rebounds, they gathered a total of six offensive and twenty defensive rebounds contributing to their overall count of twenty-eight.


On contrast, The Golden Bears excelled both offensively and defensively throughout all four quarters. They ended up stealing possession nine more times than San Jose State which resulted in fifteen steals for them compared to nine by San Jose State. Their fast-paced offense earned them eighteen fast break points while capitalizing on turnovers led them to score twenty-nine off turnovers.


California also outperformed when it came down to assists with eighteen assists indicating better ball movement and teamwork compared to seven from San Jose State; this was reflected in an assist turnover ratio that was significantly higher than that of their opponents (1.5 versus approximately .25). Additionally, they dominated under both baskets securing forty-one rebounds including an impressive number of offensive rebounds at twenty-one which contributed towards twelve second-chance points.
