San Jose State Spartans Secure Victory at Provident Credit Union Event Center in Women's Basketball Clash

The San Jose State Spartans edged out the Cal Poly Mustangs with a final score of 61-56. The home team, the Spartans, now hold a record of 1-0, while the Mustangs fall to 0-1 after this closely contested game.

In an intense matchup at the Provident Credit Union Event Center, the San Jose State Spartans showcased their resilience and skill on their home court. Both teams started evenly with each scoring 11 points in the first quarter. However, by halftime, the Spartans had only a slight edge over the Mustangs with a score of 23-21.


The third quarter proved pivotal for the San Jose State team as they ramped up their offense to add an impressive 25 points to their tally while holding Cal Poly to just 15 points. This surge was fueled by their effective field goal shooting and dominance in paint scoring where they racked up 30 points throughout the game compared to Cal Poly's 20.


Defensively, San Jose State also made significant contributions with a total of 13 steals and one block. Their defensive efforts were further highlighted by limiting turnovers; they committed only one less than Cal Poly's total turnovers count of thirty.


On offense, free throws were crucial for San Jose State as they capitalized on these opportunities with an outstanding free throw percentage of eighty-seven percent making thirteen out of fifteen attempts. Their three-point shots contributed eighteen percent success rate adding six more baskets from beyond the arc.


Cal Poly's performance was notable for its accuracy from two-point range where they achieved sixty-seven percent success rate but struggled from the free throw line making just five out of nine attempts which amounted to fifty-six percent completion rate. They also managed nine three-pointers contributing thirty-six percent success from long distance.


Despite being slightly behind in total rebounds with twenty-nine against Cal Poly's thirty-two rebounds, San Jose capitalized on second-chance opportunities scoring fifteen second-chance points whereas Cal Poly scored only three such points during this encounter.
