Can San Jose State Spartans Rebound After Cox Pavilion Setback?

The San Jose State Spartans faced a tough challenge against the UNLV Lady Rebels, resulting in a 55-91 loss. The Spartans now stand with an unranked status, while the Lady Rebels boast a rank of 25. The game unfolded at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, where the home team capitalized on their opportunities to secure a decisive victory.

San Jose State Spartans VS UNLV Rebels

The San Jose State Spartans struggled to find their rhythm early on, scoring just 8 points in the opening quarter compared to the Lady Rebels' dominant 32-point performance. Despite improving their output as the game progressed with 14 points in the second quarter and reaching their peak with 17 points in the final quarter, it was not enough to close the gap created by UNLV's consistent scoring across all quarters.

The Spartans' offense was led by contributions from across the roster but was hindered by an overall field goal percentage of only 38 percent and a similar three-point shooting percentage. They were more successful from the free-throw line, making seven out of ten attempts for a free throw percentage of 70 percent. Inside play yielded them 24 points in paint but they fell short on fast break opportunities with only two fast break points.

On defense, they managed four blocks and matched that number with four steals throughout the contest. However, personal fouls added up to sixteen for The San Jose State team which may have disrupted their defensive efforts without leading to any foulouts or ejections.

Rebounding proved challenging for The Spartans as they gathered a total of twenty-two rebounds; nineteen personal rebounds supplemented by three team rebounds did not suffice against UNLV's forty-eight total rebounds which included fifteen offensive boards contributing significantly to second-chance opportunities.

Turnovers were another area where The Spartans lagged behind; eighteen turnovers compared unfavorably against eleven from UNLV. This resulted in seven points off turnovers for San Jose State whereas UNLV capitalized more effectively with twenty-two such points.

Looking ahead after this setback at Cox Pavilion, fans can anticipate seeing how The San Jose State Spartans will regroup as they prepare for their next encounter. Their upcoming game is set against Nevada Wolf Pack at Provident Credit Union Event Center located at 95112 San Jose CA USA on January 13th at 2:00 PM Pacific Time. Fans can catch this match-up live and support their team as they look forward to bouncing back from this defeat.
