Spartans Outmaneuvered at Home by the Lobos' Sharp Shooting

The San Jose State Spartans faced a challenging contest against the Lobos, concluding with a scoreboard that read 65-54 in favor of the visitors. The Spartans now stand with an unaltered record, while the Lobos improved their season tally.

San Jose State Spartans VS New Mexico Lobos

From the opening quarter, it was evident that the San Jose State Spartans were up against a formidable opponent. The Lobos set an aggressive pace, outscoring the home team 18-12 in the first quarter. Despite this early setback, the Spartans showed resilience and managed to edge out their opponents in the second quarter with a score of 16-14.

The third quarter saw both teams battling hard on court but once again it was New Mexico who took advantage by matching their first-quarter performance with another 18 points to San Jose State's 14. Entering into what would be a decisive fourth quarter, momentum seemed to be on New Mexico's side as they closed out their victory by adding another 15 points to their total compared to just 12 from San Jose State.

Statistically speaking, both teams displayed notable efforts in various aspects of play. The Spartans secured more rebounds than New Mexico with a total of 41 compared to New Mexico's 33. This included an impressive count of offensive rebounds for San Jose State at eleven which led them to secure nine second-chance points.

However, shooting accuracy proved pivotal; while both teams attempted similar numbers from beyond the arc (San Jose State at twenty-one attempts and New Mexico twenty-four), it was New Mexico who found success with thirty-eight percent accuracy compared to thirty-three percent for San Jose State. Overall field goal percentages also leaned towards New Mexico who completed forty-two percent of attempts over thirty-four percent by San Jose State.

On defense, both sides were almost even-steven; however, it was again New Mexico who had a slight edge over San Jose State – two blocks and six steals for them versus three blocks and seven steals for Spartan defenders.

In terms of ball handling and teamwork on offense, despite committing one less turnover than their opponents (sixteen turnovers), Spartan players managed thirteen assists which is slightly higher than eleven assists recorded by players from The Lobos. Yet this small margin wasn't enough as turnovers became costly points for The Lobos who capitalized with eleven points off turnovers while limiting Spartan gains to eight from similar opportunities.
