San Jose State's Fourth Quarter Surge Not Enough to Overcome New Mexico at The Pit

In a conference game that saw the San Jose State Spartans fall to the New Mexico Lobos with a final score of 51-72, both teams demonstrated their competitive spirit. The Spartans now stand with a record of 0-1, while the Lobos have started their season with a victory. Despite the loss, San Jose State showed resilience in the fourth quarter.

San Jose State Spartans VS New Mexico Lobos

The game unfolded at The Pit in Albuquerque, where 4,807 fans witnessed an intense battle on the court. The Spartans struggled to find their rhythm early on, trailing behind after each quarter with scores of 12-17, 11-16 and 9-19 respectively before entering the final period. It was in this last quarter that they mounted an impressive comeback attempt by scoring 19 points but ultimately fell short as time ran out.

San Jose State's performance was marked by solid teamwork and determination. They racked up a total of seventeen assists and managed to block five shots from their opponents. Their defensive efforts were further highlighted by four steals throughout the game. On offense, they converted all five free throw attempts and scored twenty-two points inside the paint.

However, turnovers proved costly for San Jose State as they gave up possession nineteen times which led to nine points off turnovers for New Mexico. In contrast, New Mexico capitalized on such opportunities scoring twenty points off turnovers thanks to only eight giveaways.

The Lobos also had an edge in shooting accuracy from beyond the arc hitting eleven three-pointers at forty-six percent compared to six made by San Jose State at twenty-seven percent efficiency. Rebounding was another area where New Mexico outperformed San Jose State grabbing thirty-eight rebounds over thirty-four by Spartan players.

Looking ahead for San Jose State fans eager to support their team: The next challenge will be against Fresno State Bulldogs at Save Mart Center located in Fresno on February seventeenth scheduled for a two o'clock tip-off Pacific Time Zone (5 PM Eastern). Fans can catch all live action as it unfolds directly from Save Mart Center or tune into broadcasts available through local sports networks.
