Mustangs and Falcons Set to Clash in Moody Coliseum Women's Basketball Showdown

As the Southern Methodist University Mustangs prepare to face off against the Air Force Falcons at Moody Coliseum, fans are eager for a redemption story. The Mustangs have had a rocky start this season, but their upcoming game on December 21st presents an opportunity to turn the tide.

Air Force Falcons VS SMU Mustangs

In their last outing at Moody Coliseum on December 5th, SMU fell just short against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions with a final score of 76-78. Despite outscoring their opponents in both the third and fourth quarters, it wasn't enough to secure victory. The Mustangs showed resilience and an ability to fight back which could be pivotal against Air Force.

The statistics from that game reveal areas where SMU can capitalize. Their free throw accuracy was impressive at 90 percent, suggesting that when given opportunities at the line, they can deliver. However, with only four fast break points compared to Arkansas-Pine Bluff's 19, it’s clear that increasing tempo could be advantageous for SMU.

Another point of concern is rebounding; SMU was outrebounded by two boards in their last home game. This margin may seem small but in basketball every possession counts and this is an area where they must improve.

Looking back further to December 1st against Baylor Bears – a team ranked number 13 – SMU scored only 61 points while allowing Baylor an imposing total of 85 points. It was evident that defensive lapses cost them dearly as Baylor dominated inside with a staggering 46 points in paint compared to SMU’s modest tally of 28.

However, there were positives even from this loss; notably their three-point shooting percentage stood at an impressive 46 percent which could be key in stretching Air Force’s defense come game day.

The Mustangs' most recent away game on November 25th saw them defeated by Harvard Crimson with a scoreline of 67-80. While turnovers were nearly even between both teams (SMU had one more than Harvard), personal fouls were significantly higher for SMU which led to more free throw opportunities for Harvard – something they capitalized on magnificently shooting almost perfect from the line (93 percent).

To triumph over Air Force Falcons, it is essential for SMU Mustangs not only maintain their free throw efficiency but also bolster their defense especially inside and control personal fouls better than previous games.

Fans are looking forward not just for another thrilling encounter but also hoping that lessons have been learned from past performances as we approach this crucial matchup before year-end holidays kick-in full swing.

Remember mark your calendars: December 21st at Moody Coliseum starting at7 PM local time will see if these strategies pay off when Southern Methodist University takes on Air Force Falcons right here in Dallas without any broadcast networks covering live so make sure you get your tickets or join us directly courtside!
