From the opening quarter, the Gamecocks set an aggressive pace, outscoring the Tigers 27-14. The home team's offensive efforts were relentless throughout the game, as they maintained their lead in each quarter with scores of 16 and 17 points in the second and third quarters respectively, before closing out with another strong performance of 19 points in the fourth.

The South Carolina Gamecocks showcased a balanced attack on both ends of the court. They made an impressive 31 field goals out of 71 attempts for a shooting percentage of approximately 44 percent. Their prowess was particularly evident inside, where they scored a remarkable 60 points in paint. Additionally, their defense was impenetrable at times; they blocked eight shots and matched their opponents with six steals.

On top of that defensive effort, South Carolina dominated rebounding with a total of 52 rebounds - nearly double that of Memphis' count - which included grabbing an overwhelming number of offensive rebounds (17). This led to them scoring an additional fifteen second-chance points.

The Tigers fought valiantly but struggled to find their rhythm against South Carolina's formidable defense. They managed to make only eighteen field goals from fifty-six attempts resulting in a low shooting percentage around thirty-two percent. Despite converting fourteen free throws from twenty-one attempts (approximately sixty-seven percent), it wasn't enough to close down on South Carolina’s lead.
