From the opening quarter at Colonial Life Arena, it was clear that the Gamecocks were on a mission to maintain their top rank. They set the pace early on by outscoring Tennessee 20-14 and maintained a consistent performance throughout each quarter. Their offensive efforts were matched by an equally impressive defensive display which saw them block five shots and steal possession eight times from their opponents.

The home team's tenacity was evident in every aspect of their game play. They dominated total rebounds with 57 against Tennessee's 41 and capitalized on turnovers scoring 13 points off them compared to just seven for the visitors. The Gamecocks' aggressive play did lead to one player being fouled out; however, this did not deter them as they continued to push forward relentlessly.

South Carolina's shooting accuracy from two-point range stood at 35 percent while they managed a slightly lower field goal percentage of 33 percent overall. Despite these modest shooting percentages, they made up for it with volume – attempting a total of 81 field goals and making good on enough opportunities to secure the win.

Their free throw performance was solid at a rate of approximately 69 percent completion which contributed crucial points towards their victory tally. In contrast, despite better accuracy from Tennessee who completed around three-quarters of their free throws, it wasn't enough to close down South Carolina's lead.
