Jayhawks Soar Past Horned Frogs in a Close Encounter at Schollmaier Arena
The TCU Horned Frogs faced a tough challenge against the visiting Jayhawks, with the final scoreboard reading 81-74. The Horned Frogs now stand with an even record, while the Jayhawks improved their season tally. Despite a valiant effort by TCU, they fell short in front of their home crowd at Schollmaier Arena.
The game was marked by several lead changes and both teams saw the score tied eight times throughout the contest. The Jayhawks managed to edge out with a seven-point victory thanks to consistent scoring across all quarters – 16, 21, 20, and 24 points respectively. Their offensive efforts were bolstered by shooting 51 percent from the field and an impressive 44 percent from beyond the arc.
On defense, both teams displayed equal prowess with four blocks each. However, Kansas capitalized on turnovers better than TCU did; they scored 14 points off turnovers compared to TCU's more significant contribution of 23 points off turnovers for their side.
The Horned Frogs showed strong teamwork with an outstanding number of assists at twenty-three but struggled on rebounds against Kansas' thirty-six total rebounds. The home team also lagged slightly behind in field goal percentage at forty-four percent and three-point percentage at thirty-nine percent.
TCU's performance was highlighted by their free throw accuracy which stood at seventy-six percent but it wasn't enough to overcome Kansas' seventy-five percent free throw shooting and superior scoring inside the paint where they racked up forty-two points against TCU's twenty-two.
Despite falling behind early with only fourteen points in the first quarter compared to sixteen from Kansas, TCU rallied back strongly in the third quarter putting up twenty-seven points — their highest-scoring quarter of this matchup. Yet it was not sufficient as they could only manage thirteen points in the final period while Kansas extended their lead further with twenty-four points.
