Mountaineers Climb to Victory Over Horned Frogs with Dominant Third Quarter Surge

The TCU Horned Frogs faced a challenging contest against the 24-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers, culminating in a 77-52 outcome. The Horned Frogs entered the game unranked and were unable to secure a win, while the Mountaineers improved their record with another victory.

From the onset, it was clear that the TCU Horned Frogs had their work cut out for them. Despite a close first quarter ending at 15-14 in favor of the visitors, TCU struggled in the second quarter scoring only five points compared to West Virginia's 17. The third quarter proved pivotal as West Virginia extended their lead significantly by adding an impressive 28 points to their tally while holding TCU to just 13. The final period saw an improved effort from TCU with 20 points scored but it wasn't enough to bridge the gap.


The statistics painted a picture of where challenges lay for TCU; they shot at just 34 percent from field goals and made only seven out of twenty-six three-point attempts, translating into a three-point percentage of merely twenty-seven percent. Their free throw performance was more efficient at seventy percent but on fewer attempts than their opponents who took thirteen shots from the line.


Defensively, TCU managed seven blocks over West Virginia's five and recorded seven steals during play. However, they were outrebounded by West Virginia who secured forty rebounds over thirty-three from TCU and also gave up more turnovers with twenty compared to fourteen by their opponents.


West Virginia's offense was powered through significant contributions inside as they scored fifty points in paint and capitalized on turnovers scoring twenty-one points off them. Their two-point shooting percentage stood at fifty-six percent which greatly contributed to maintaining their lead throughout most of this conference game.
