Temple Owls Edge Out Shockers in a Nail-Biter at Liacouras Center

The Temple Owls and the Wichita State Shockers faced off in a closely contested battle that ended with the home team narrowly outscoring their opponents 66-65. The Owls' season record now stands at an even 0-0, while the Shockers also maintain a neutral record of 0-0. Both teams fought hard, but it was the Owls who clinched victory by just one point.

From the opening quarter, it was clear that fans at Philadelphia's Liacouras Center were in for an intense game. The Temple Owls started strong with 15 points against the Shockers' 13 in the first quarter. However, Wichita State picked up momentum and outscored the home team by eight points in the second quarter, taking a lead into halftime.


The third quarter saw a resurgence from Temple as they racked up an impressive 20 points to Wichita State's 17, showing their determination to seize control of the game. It was during this period that Temple's defense shone through with two blocks and ten steals throughout the game which contributed significantly to their offensive opportunities.


Offensively, both teams had similar assists numbers with each recording 13 assists; however, it was Temple's ability to capitalize on fast breaks scoring ten fast break points compared to Wichita State's six that helped tilt things in their favor. Furthermore, despite having more turnovers (19) than Wichita State (17), Temple managed to score more points off turnovers (16) than their opponents did (18).


Temple showed grit under pressure as they entered into a tight fourth quarter where every possession counted. They scored eighteen final-quarter points while holding Wichita State to fourteen. The Owl’s shooting accuracy from within two-point range stood at forty-five percent compared to forty percent for Wichita State which proved crucial down the stretch.


Rebounding played a pivotal role for Temple as they dominated with forty-one total rebounds over thirty-five by Wichita State; seventeen of those were offensive rebounds which provided additional scoring chances leading them towards victory.
