Longhorns Edge Out Lady Raiders in a Close Encounter at Moody Center

The Texas Longhorns and the Lady Raiders faced off in an intense conference game that saw the home team, with a 5-0 record, narrowly defeat their opponents 77-72. The Lady Raiders, unranked this season, put up a valiant effort but fell short against the formidable Longhorns.

From the opening quarter, it was clear that fans at Moody Center were in for a competitive match. The Longhorns started strong with an 18-point performance but were closely trailed by the Lady Raiders who scored 17 points. As both teams battled through each quarter, neither could establish dominance; there were six lead changes and two instances where the score was tied throughout the game.


The Texas Longhorns showcased their offensive capabilities by making 25 out of their total 55 field goal attempts, resulting in a solid 46 percent shooting rate from the field. Their prowess inside was evident as they racked up an impressive 30 points in paint compared to their opponent's 24. The team also capitalized on turnovers scoring 20 points off of them.


On defense, Texas proved to be just as effective. They out-rebounded their opponents with a total of 42 rebounds; notably grabbing an outstanding number of offensive rebounds at fifteen which led to eleven second-chance points. Their defensive efforts included blocking four shots and stealing possession five times from the Lady Raiders.


Free throws played a significant role for Texas as well; they visited the line thirty-four times and successfully converted twenty-four of those opportunities into points – achieving an admirable free throw percentage of seventy-one percent.


Despite these impressive statistics by Texas, credit must be given where due - to TTU's sharpshooting from beyond the arc which kept them within striking distance throughout all four quarters. They managed to sink twelve three-pointers on twenty-five attempts giving them an impressive forty-eight percent success rate from long range.


As both teams fought hard until the last buzzer sounded at midnight local time, it was ultimately Texas' ability to maintain composure and execute under pressure that secured them victory before an audience of five thousand eight hundred ninety-two spectators.
