Buffaloes Edge Trojans in a Close Encounter at CU Events Center

The University of Southern California Trojans, ranked 6th, faced off against the 3rd-ranked Colorado Buffaloes in a tightly contested battle that ended with the home team securing a narrow victory. The final scoreboard read 63-59 in favor of the Buffaloes, leaving both teams' records altered; the Trojans now stand at 6-1 while the Buffaloes improve to 7-0.

From tip-off at Boulder's CU Events Center, it was clear that this would be a game decided by fine margins. The USC Trojans started strong out of the gate with an impressive first quarter performance scoring 18 points to Colorado's 14. However, as play progressed, they couldn't maintain their early momentum and were outscored by two points in the second quarter.


The third quarter saw USC put up a valiant effort adding another 17 points to their tally but still found themselves trailing as they entered the final stretch. Despite matching Colorado point-for-point in the fourth quarter with each team scoring an additional 12 points, it wasn't enough for USC to close down their opponents or take back control of the game.


USC displayed commendable defensive efforts throughout, accumulating ten steals and four blocks during play. Their offensive stats also showed promise; they managed to convert seven out of twenty attempts from beyond the arc resulting in a three-point shooting percentage of thirty-five percent and scored fifteen fast break points which highlighted their ability to capitalize on turnovers.


However, turnovers were also an issue for USC as they gave up possession twelve times throughout the match. Although they managed an eighty percent success rate from free throw line making twelve free throws from fifteen attempts and scored eighteen points inside paint area which demonstrated effective penetration into opposition’s defense.


On individual performances for USC: players showcased resilience and skill but ultimately fell short against a determined Buffaloes side who boasted higher field goal accuracy at forty-four percent compared to thirty-eight percent by Trojan athletes. The Buffaloes also had superior rebounding numbers with thirty-seven total rebounds over twenty-seven by USC which played a significant role in securing second chance opportunities contributing four extra points for them.


Looking ahead after this setback on court for University of Southern California Trojans will be hosting Washington State Cougars at Galen Center located in Los Angeles on January 26th at 7:00 PM local time (PST).
