The game, which took place at Von Braun Center, saw a strong performance from the home team. The UTEP Miners showcased their offensive capabilities by shooting an impressive 48 percent from the field and an even more remarkable 83 percent from the free-throw line. Their two-point field goal percentage stood at a solid 49 percent, contributing significantly to their total score.

The Miners also excelled defensively with three blocks and six steals, indicating a well-rounded effort on both ends of the court. They capitalized on turnovers, scoring 22 points off of Sam Houston's mistakes. This was complemented by their ability to control rebounds; they collected a total of 37 rebounds – nine offensive and twenty-four defensive.

Furthermore, efficiency was key for UTEP as they maintained an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.5, demonstrating effective ball handling and teamwork with fifteen assists to only ten turnovers throughout the game. Their performance in paint was particularly dominant as they racked up forty-eight points in this area alone.

On offense, six successful three-point shots were made out of fourteen attempts resulting in a three-point shooting percentage of forty-three percent which contributed to keeping pressure on Sam Houston's defense throughout all four quarters.

Sam Houston Bearkats put up a valiant fight despite falling short against UTEP's robust gameplay. They managed to make eleven three-point shots out of twenty-seven attempts giving them a forty-one percent success rate from beyond the arc. The Bearkats also had fifteen assists but were hindered by seventeen turnovers which proved costly against an opportunistic Miner defense.

In terms of rebounding efforts, Sam Houston pulled down thirty-five boards but struggled inside against UTEP’s defense with only fourteen points scored in paint compared to Miner’s dominating forty-eight points.

Looking ahead after this first-round victory in Conference USA play, fans can anticipate another exciting game as The UTEP Miners will next face Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at Von Braun Center on March 13th at 11:30 AM local time (Central Time). Fans eager to support their team can catch all live action broadcasted from Huntsville.
