From tip-off, it was evident that Virginia Tech was in sync as they matched Miami's initial energy with a solid first quarter performance ending at 14 points each. However, it was in the second quarter that Virginia Tech began to pull away significantly, outscoring Miami by an impressive margin and setting up a lead that would only grow as the game progressed.

The Hokies were particularly effective from the free throw line, hitting an outstanding 83 percent of their shots compared to just 62 percent by Miami. This sharpshooting contributed to their overall field goal percentage of 39 percent on par with their two-point attempts which stood at a similar rate. Their three-point efforts were also notable; sinking nine out of twenty-six attempts gave them a substantial edge over Miami's three made from eighteen attempts.

Virginia Tech's defensive efforts cannot be overlooked either; they held Miami to just thirty-six percent shooting from the field and an even lower seventeen percent from beyond the arc. Additionally, they forced seventeen turnovers from which they scored eighteen points – showcasing how defense can effectively turn into offense.

On top of this defensive display was an offensive clinic led by Virginia Tech's players who dished out eighteen assists throughout the contest – demonstrating excellent ball movement and teamwork against Miami's ten assists. This helped maintain a high assist-to-turnover ratio for Virginia Tech at 1.5 compared to just 0.63 for Miami.

Rebounding also played a crucial role in this matchup with Virginia Tech grabbing forty-one rebounds including eleven offensive boards leading to ten second-chance points – equaling what Miami managed despite having fewer opportunities.

As fans look forward to future games, attention turns towards another challenging encounter for Virginia Tech as they prepare to face off against Florida State Seminoles at Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in Tallahassee on January 14th at 1:00 PM Eastern Time.
