West Virginia Mountaineers Edge Out Wright State Raiders at WVU Coliseum in Women's Basketball Showdown

In a closely contested game at the WVU Coliseum, the West Virginia Mountaineers emerged victorious over the Wright State Raiders with a final score of 77-72. The Mountaineers now stand with an improved record, while the Raiders face a setback.

Toledo Rockets VS West Virginia Mountaineers

The West Virginia Mountaineers showcased their resilience on their home court against the visiting Wright State Raiders. The game was marked by numerous lead changes and both teams were tied twelve times throughout, indicating a tightly matched contest. The Mountaineers managed to secure a five-point victory largely due to their superior performance in converting turnovers into points, scoring 30 compared to the Raider's 14.

The home team capitalized on offensive rebounds, grabbing 10 which contributed to their total rebound count of 32 against the Raider's 26. This advantage allowed them to score an additional 14 points from second chances. Despite shooting at a lower field goal percentage of 39 percent compared to Wright State's impressive 51 percent, it was West Virginia’s aggressive play that saw them attempt and make more free throws; they made good on 29 out of their total attempts.

Defensively, West Virginia also outperformed Wright State with steals totaling at eleven versus seven for the visitors. However, both teams showed discipline in blocking with two for the Mountaineers and three for the Raiders.

Wright State demonstrated efficiency from beyond the arc hitting an admirable rate of approximately forty-six percent from three-point range while making twelve shots from distance. Their free throw accuracy was notable as well with nearly eighty-six percent made shots but it wasn't enough to overcome West Virginia’s tenacity.

Looking ahead for fans of 'the' West Virginia Mountaineers is another opportunity to support their team when they host 'the' Niagara Purple Eagles at 'the' WVU Coliseum located in Morgantown on December twenty-first at seven o'clock PM Eastern Time.
