In a closely contested battle at Bramlage Coliseum, the West Virginia Mountaineers, ranked 22nd, faced off against the 10th-ranked Kansas State Wildcats. The Mountaineers now stand with a record of 22-64 after an intense game that extended into overtime, ultimately falling to the Wildcats who improved their record to 73-64.

Kansas State Wildcats VS West Virginia Mountaineers

The Mountaineers started strong with a lead in the first quarter but were overtaken by halftime as the Wildcats found their rhythm. Despite this setback, West Virginia displayed remarkable resilience and managed to tie the game by the end of regulation time. The extra period saw both teams fighting for every point; however, it was Kansas State that capitalized on opportunities to secure their victory.

West Virginia's performance was marked by aggressive defense and opportunistic scoring. They racked up an impressive total of 15 steals and blocked six shots from their opponents. This defensive effort translated into offense as they scored 23 points off turnovers compared to Kansas State's 11 points in this category.

On offense, West Virginia showed balance but struggled with efficiency from beyond the arc, converting only eight out of thirty attempts for a three-point percentage of just twenty-seven percent. Inside the paint was where they excelled with twenty-two points contributing significantly to their overall score.

The team's work on rebounds was notable as well; they gathered thirty-three rebounds throughout the game—twenty-seven personal and six team rebounds—with five offensive boards leading to second-chance opportunities which resulted in four additional points for West Virginia.

Assists were another area where West Virginia demonstrated teamwork with thirteen assists during playtime. However, ball handling proved challenging at times as evidenced by eighteen turnovers which slightly overshadowed their assist efforts.

Kansas State's home advantage played its part too; they outperformed West Virginia in several statistical categories including total rebounds (45) and field goal percentage (47 percent). Their dominance inside led them to score forty-two points in paint while also making seventy-five percent of free throws attempted—a critical factor during close games such as this one.

As fans look ahead after this hard-fought contest, attention turns toward future matchups. The next challenge for West Virginia will be against Baylor Bears at WVU Coliseum located in Morgantown on February 24th at 1:00 PM Eastern Time.
