Lady Toppers Outpaced by Blue Raiders in a Game of Numbers at Murphy Athletic Center

In a conference game that saw the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers face off against the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, the scoreboard reflected a challenging outing for the visitors. The Lady Toppers, unable to secure a win, ended with 48 points against the Blue Raiders' commanding 80. The season's record for Western Kentucky now stands at an unmentioned number of victories and defeats.

From tip-off at Murphy Athletic Center, it was evident that Western Kentucky had their work cut out for them. Despite scoring only 8 points in the first quarter and trailing behind Middle Tennessee's 22, they managed to pick up momentum in the second quarter with an additional 14 points. However, this surge was met with consistent scoring from the home team who added another 18 points to their tally.


The third quarter saw an improved performance from Western Kentucky as they racked up 16 points but still found themselves outpaced by Middle Tennessee who matched them with another set of 16 points. In terms of shooting accuracy throughout the game, Western Kentucky struggled with field goals making only 30 percent compared to Middle Tennessee's more efficient rate of 46 percent.


Western Kentucky did show resilience under pressure; they fought hard in paint scoring a total of 24 points there and capitalized on turnovers by adding nine more to their scoreline. Their efforts on fast breaks also yielded them eleven points but were slightly overshadowed by Middle Tennessee’s ten fast break points.


On individual performances, no single player from either team was spotlighted; however, it is worth noting that collectively Western Kentucky managed four blocks and two steals over four quarters while assisting nine times during play. Their rebounding effort amounted to thirty-four total rebounds which included twenty defensive and eleven offensive rebounds.


The final quarter concluded with ten additional points for Western Kentucky while Middle Tennessee surged ahead adding twenty-four more to seal their victory convincingly at home. The Lady Toppers’ three-point attempts were not as fruitful as hoped; they made just four out of twenty-four attempts resulting in seventeen percent success rate from beyond the arc.
