Wyoming Cowgirls Set to Host Air Force Falcons at Arena-Auditorium

As the Wyoming Cowgirls prepare to welcome the Air Force Falcons to the Arena-Auditorium, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be a captivating encounter. The Cowgirls, coming off a mixed bag of performances, have shown both resilience and areas for improvement that will be crucial in their upcoming game.

Air Force Falcons VS Wyoming Cowgirls

In their last outing on December 22 against Eastern Washington Eagles, the WYO team scored 43 points but allowed 62. Despite shooting a solid 50 percent from two-point range and an impressive 71 percent from the free-throw line, they struggled beyond the arc with only a 13 percent success rate. Moreover, turnovers were a glaring issue as they gave up possession 20 times which translated into just six points off turnovers compared to Eastern Washington's commanding 23.

However, looking back at their performance on December 21 against Wright State Raiders provides a more optimistic perspective. The WYO team emerged victorious with an assertive scoreline of 71-61. Their field goal percentage was an outstanding 53 percent and they dominated inside with an imposing presence in the paint scoring 42 points. Additionally, their rebounding was dominant as they grabbed a total of 45 rebounds—12 offensive—which led to them capitalizing on second-chance opportunities by adding up another impressive tally of 22 points.

The defensive end also saw improvements; blocks increased from two against Eastern Washington Eagles to four against Wright State Raiders while steals remained consistent.

Against Montana State Bobcats on December 17 though, there were again signs of concern particularly regarding ball security as turnovers matched those seen in their most recent game (20), despite winning some key statistical battles such as three-point shooting where they hit nearly one-third of their attempts.

The upcoming clash will test whether WYO can maintain its strong interior play while addressing weaknesses like perimeter shooting and ball handling under pressure. The Falcons' defense will undoubtedly look to exploit these issues so it's imperative that Wyoming sharpens its execution if it hopes for success.

Fans should expect WYO's coaching staff to have emphasized these aspects during practice sessions leading up to this pivotal match-up. With home-court advantage and having shown flashes of brilliance throughout past games this season despite inconsistencies, there is reason for optimism among supporters that Wyoming can put forth a comprehensive performance worthy of victory.
