Falcons Narrowly Clipped by Saints at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Season Opener

The Atlanta Falcons faced off against the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, marking the beginning of their regular season. The game concluded with a nail-biting score of 27-26, leaving both teams with a 7-10 record.

The Falcons showcased a robust offensive performance, accumulating a total of 416 yards. The ground game was particularly effective, as they rushed for 201 yards over 38 attempts, averaging approximately five yards per carry. This rushing attack was highlighted by two touchdowns that contributed to the team's overall score. In terms of passing, the Falcons managed to gain 215 yards through the air with an average completion yielding about eleven yards.


Atlanta's defense applied pressure throughout the game, registering four sacks and eight quarterback hits on their opponents. They also forced one fumble and recovered another while holding strong on third down situations four times during the contest.

Special teams played a significant role in keeping Atlanta competitive. The field goal unit successfully converted four out of five attempts with one blocked kick; their longest successful field goal stretched an impressive 54 yards.


Penalties were an area where both discipline and improvement were evident for Atlanta; they incurred eight penalties totaling fifty-five penalty yards which ultimately had an impact on their possession time and scoring opportunities.

Despite these efforts, it was not enough to secure victory as New Orleans edged out Atlanta by just one point in this closely contested match-up.
