The special teams unit also played a crucial role in securing field position advantage. Punter Johnny Hekker had a busy day with three punts for 155 yards, successfully pinning the Falcons inside their own twenty-yard line twice.


Defensively, cornerback Mike Jackson made one of the game's defining plays by intercepting a pass and returning it for nineteen yards. This turnover was critical in halting an Atlanta drive and swinging momentum back to Carolina.
