Bears Claw Victory Over Texans: Rypien's Precision Leads Chicago to 21-17 Win

In a closely contested preseason opener, the Chicago Bears emerged victorious over the Houston Texans with a final score of 21-17. This win brings the Bears' record to 1-0, while the Texans fall to 0-1 in their first outing of the season. The game, held at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, saw an attendance of 17,528 fans who witnessed a competitive match-up from start to finish.

The Bears' offense was notably efficient under quarterback Brett Rypien's leadership. Rypien completed 73 percent of his passes for a total of 166 yards and contributed three touchdowns without succumbing to any interceptions. His performance was pivotal in securing the win for Chicago and showcased his ability to distribute the ball effectively across various targets.


On defense, Byron Cowart stood out with an impressive display that included three tackles and one sack for seven yards lost by Houston. Cowart also forced a fumble, highlighting his disruptive presence on the field throughout the game. Additionally, Leon Jones made significant contributions on defense by defending two passes effectively against Houston's attempts downfield.

Special teams played their part as well with Corliss Waitman punting three times for an average net yardage of nearly 43 yards per punt and managing to place one punt inside the Texans' 20-yard line.


The receiving corps had multiple contributors including Collin Johnson who caught three passes for a total of 56 yards and scored two touchdowns. Tommy Sweeney also made notable contributions with three receptions totaling 47 yards and securing one touchdown.


As for rushing efforts, Khalil Herbert led with four attempts yielding an impressive average gain per carry; he managed to break free for a long run of nineteen yards contributing significantly towards maintaining balanced offensive momentum.
