The Anaheim Ducks, with a record of 22-30-9, faced off against the Columbus Blue Jackets, who came into the game with a 28-25-4 record. In a contest that saw an abundance of goals, the final score read 7-4 in favor of the visiting team.

At the Honda Center, home to the Ducks, fans witnessed their team struggle to contain an aggressive Blue Jackets offense. The visitors opened up with an impressive three-goal lead in the first period and added one more in the second. Despite a valiant effort by Anaheim in that same period where they netted four goals to even out their total points for this game, Columbus pulled away once again by adding three more goals in the third period.

Anaheim's performance was highlighted by their powerplay strength; however, they were unable to convert on any of their four opportunities. Conversely, Columbus capitalized on their shorthanded situation scoring one goal during this disadvantage. The Ducks did manage to out-hit their opponents with 28 hits compared to 22 and had a higher faceoff win percentage at 53 percent over Columbus' 47 percent.

The goaltending battle was won by Columbus as well; they saved all but four of Anaheim's shots for a perfect save percentage while Anaheim allowed seven goals from twenty-seven shots faced. Additionally, both teams blocked ten shots each and gave away possession multiple times – ten for Anaheim and five for Columbus.

The Blue Jackets' victory was sealed when they scored an empty-net goal towards the end of regulation time – showcasing not only offensive skill but also strategic acumen as they managed game flow effectively.
