Anaheim Ducks outlast Montreal Canadiens as Chris Kreider and Lukas Dostal steer a shootout finish

The Anaheim Ducks moved to 35-24-3 with 6 points after a 5-5 game that ended with a 2-1 shootout edge over the Montreal Canadiens at Honda Center. The Canadiens left at 33-18-10 with 5 points after the 5-5 result in regulation and overtime.

First period


The Ducks scored 2 goals in the first period as the Canadiens scored 2 goals in the first period to set a 2-2 start. Anaheim registered 33 shots in the game, and Lukas Dostal finished with 23 saves on 28 shots against in the win.


Second period


The Ducks added 1 goal in the second period while the Canadiens were held to 0 goals in the second period. Anaheim went 1-for-2 on the power play, and Montreal went 1-for-4 on the power play as special teams produced 2 total power-play goals.

Third period


The Ducks scored 2 goals in the third period, and the Canadiens answered with 3 goals in the third period to force overtime. The Ducks posted 17 hits and 15 giveaways, and the Canadiens recorded 21 hits and 17 giveaways in a game that swung on puck pressure.


Overtime and shootout


The teams stayed scoreless in overtime as Montreal put 4 overtime shots on net and Anaheim recorded 0 overtime shots. Anaheim won the shootout with 2 goals on 5 shots, and Dostal stopped 4 of 5 shootout shots while the Canadiens scored 1 shootout goal on 5 shots.
