First Period

The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses, but it was the Blues who managed to break through first. Mathieu Joseph capitalized on an opportunity to put his team ahead early in the game. The Sabres struggled to find their rhythm offensively and were unable to convert any of their chances into goals.

Second Period

As play resumed in the second period, Buffalo's defense tightened up, but they still couldn't find a way past Joel Hofer in net for St. Louis. Hofer's performance was pivotal as he stopped all shots that came his way during this period as well as throughout the game.

Third Period

In an attempt to turn things around in the third period, Buffalo increased their offensive pressure but continued to be stymied by Hofer's goaltending prowess and solid defensive play from St. Louis' backline. Nick Bjugstad added another goal for St. Louis midway through this segment before an empty-netter sealed their win.

Despite outshooting their opponents 28-17 overall and having more powerplay opportunities (3 compared to 2), Buffalo could not capitalize on these advantages due largely due excellent penalty killing by The Blue Note squad which included scoring one shorthanded goal themselves during those situations - highlighting one key moment where momentum shifted further away from them towards visitors side instead .
