First Period

The game commenced with both teams displaying strong defensive strategies. The Penguins managed to break through first, scoring a goal that set them ahead early on. Despite their efforts, the Sabres were unable to capitalize on their opportunities and ended the period trailing by one.

Second Period

The second period saw no change in score as both teams tightened their defenses. The Sabres struggled with giveaways, totaling 15 throughout the game, which hindered their ability to mount an effective offense. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh maintained control of faceoffs with a win percentage of 58 percent.

Third Period

In an exciting third period, Buffalo's Jack Quinn emerged as a key player for his team by contributing significantly with one goal and one assist. His performance was instrumental in narrowing the gap between the two teams. However, despite Quinn's efforts and those of his teammates like Rasmus Dahlin who led in shots taken for Buffalo, it was not enough to overcome Pittsburgh's lead.

Kevin Hayes shone brightly for Pittsburgh by securing his position as first star of the match due to his pivotal contributions on offense. The Pens capitalized on turnovers and secured two more goals during this period including an empty-netter that sealed their victory over Buffalo.
