First Period

The opening period saw an early lead established by the home team as they netted three goals. The Sabres found themselves on their heels from the start, with Josh Doan being one of few bright spots for Buffalo as he scored their lone goal of the game. Despite having 33 shots on goal throughout, Buffalo's offense was stymied by Columbus goaltender Jet Greaves who made crucial saves.

Second Period

In the second period, both teams tightened up defensively with each side managing to keep scoring opportunities limited. However, it was Columbus who capitalized once more with another goal extending their lead further. The Sabres struggled to find rhythm offensively and were unable to convert any of their five powerplay opportunities into goals.

Third Period

As play resumed in the third period, Buffalo continued to press but failed to break through a resilient CBJ defense that blocked numerous attempts and maintained pressure on Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in net for Buffalo. A late empty-netter sealed it for Columbus as they added one more tally before time expired.

Despite outshooting their opponents slightly and winning faceoffs at 52 percent efficiency, key turnovers and missed chances plagued Buffalo's efforts throughout this encounter. Owen Power contributed an assist during his time on ice but overall defensive lapses proved costly against an opportunistic Blue Jackets squad.
