First Period

The opening period saw both teams testing each other's defenses. The Sabres struck first with Rasmus Dahlin finding the back of the net, assisted by Jason Zucker and Jack Quinn. This early lead showcased Dahlin's offensive capabilities from defense. However, Carolina responded with an equalizer from Andrei Svechnikov, leveling the score by period's end.

Second Period

As play resumed in the second period, both teams tightened their defensive strategies. The Swords struggled to penetrate Carolina’s defense despite several attempts on goal. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stood firm for Buffalo with crucial saves that kept his team in contention as neither side could break through during this segment.

Third Period

Entering into what would be a decisive third period, it was Seth Jarvis who capitalized on a powerplay opportunity for Carolina to put them ahead 2-1. This proved pivotal as Buffalo failed to convert any further chances into goals despite maintaining pressure until time expired.

In terms of individual performances for Buffalo, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made an impressive total of 26 saves out of 28 shots faced but ultimately couldn't prevent defeat due to limited offensive support from his teammates.
