First Period

The opening period saw both teams coming out strong, but it was Jason Zucker from the Sabres who managed to find the back of the net first. His goal gave Buffalo an early lead and set an optimistic tone for their fans at KeyBank Center. However, Pittsburgh quickly responded with two goals of their own, showcasing their offensive prowess and ending the period ahead.

Second Period

As play resumed in the second period, both teams tightened up defensively. The Sabres struggled to capitalize on their powerplay opportunities despite having five chances throughout the game. Rasmus Dahlin contributed an assist during this time but couldn't help his team break through Pittsburgh's defense again in this period.

Third Period

Entering into what would be a decisive third period for both sides, Tage Thompson stood out for Buffalo by scoring once more and earning himself recognition as one of three stars from tonight’s matchup – yet it wasn’t enough against relentless pressure applied by Avery Hayes and Ben Kindel from Pittsburgh who each tallied crucial points leading them towards victory.

Despite Alex Lyon’s commendable effort between pipes saving twenty-seven shots overall; ultimately he couldn’t prevent all five goals scored against him including one empty-netter sealing fate late into final minutes marking another tough outing defensively across board especially when considering how evenly matched faceoffs were split fifty-four percent favoring home side slightly over visitors’ forty-six percent success rate there too!
