Flames' Second Period Surge Not Enough to Overcome Flyers at Wells Fargo Center

The Calgary Flames, with a record of 20-11, faced off against the Philadelphia Flyers, standing at 11-20. Despite a valiant effort and a second-period surge, the Flames fell short with a final score of 2-3.

The game started off slow for the Calgary Flames as they were unable to put any points on the board in the first period. However, they came alive in the second period scoring two goals which accounted for all their points that evening. The team's shooting accuracy was notable with an eight percent shooting percentage from their total of 24 shots on goal. Their defensive efforts were equally impressive as they blocked an impressive number of shots totaling 23.

The Flames showed resilience on defense despite being shorthanded, successfully blocking all shots during these disadvantageous times and maintaining a save percentage of one hundred percent throughout these moments. The goaltender was particularly busy that night making a total of 39 saves against an aggressive Flyers offense that took 42 shots.

On special teams play, while Calgary did not capitalize on powerplay opportunities—having three chances but no goals—they stood strong during penalty kills except for one slip where they conceded one goal out of ten shorthanded situations.

Faceoffs were evenly matched throughout the game with both teams winning half out of their total faceoffs taken which amounted to sixty-two each. The physicality was present but controlled as evidenced by Calgary's ten hits and eleven penalties resulting in twenty-five penalty minutes.

On the other side, Philadelphia Flyers capitalized on their powerplay strength scoring one goal from six opportunities and also managed to score while shorthanded once. They had slightly more hits than Calgary at twenty-two and incurred nine penalties amounting to twenty-nine penalty minutes.

As fans look ahead after this tough loss, they can mark their calendars for when the Calgary Flames will take on Chicago Blackhawks at United Center in Chicago. This upcoming match is scheduled for January 7th at 8:00 PM Eastern Time and will be available to watch nationally via ESPN+ or locally through NBCS-CHI channel number six hundred sixty-five.
