Scotiabank Saddledome Showdown: Calgary Flames Host Arizona Coyotes

As the Calgary Flames prepare to host the Arizona Coyotes at the Scotiabank Saddledome, fans are buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be an enthralling matchup. The Flames have been on a rollercoaster ride this season, but their recent performance suggests they're ready to turn up the heat.

Looking back at their last game on December 24 against the Los Angeles Kings, despite a 3-point effort, the Flames fell short with a final score of 5-3. The team's even-strength play was solid, netting one goal from 14 shots. However, it was their powerplay that really shone through with one goal from six opportunities and an impressive faceoff win percentage of 67 percent during those powerplays. Yet, it wasn't enough to secure victory as goaltending proved problematic; saving only 85 percent of shots faced is something that will need drastic improvement.

In contrast, during their December 22 game against the Anaheim Ducks, Calgary's powerplay prowess was evident once again as they capitalized on one out of seven chances. Their goaltending was impeccable that night with a perfect save percentage leading them to a shutout victory.

The most recent home game for CGY on December 19 showcased their defensive capabilities against the Florida Panthers. They blocked an astounding number of shots and had two shorthanded goals which contributed significantly to their win. Their faceoff success rate stood at over 60 percent overall – dominance in this area could be key against ARI.

The upcoming clash will test CGY's ability to maintain these strengths while addressing weaknesses like penalty minutes and giveaways which have plagued them in past games.

The Coyotes should not be underestimated though; they bring unpredictability and could capitalize if CGY falters in any aspect of their game plan. However, if recent trends are anything to go by and improvements are made where needed – particularly between the pipes – then fans can expect CGY’s aggressive forechecking and special teams play to lead them toward another exhilarating home victory.

Flames enthusiasts should mark January 16 (7:00 PM local time) on their calendars when these two teams collide at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. For those unable to attend in person, you can catch all the action live on ESPN+ or SCRIPPS depending on your location.
