The Calgary Flames started strong with two goals in the first period but were unable to maintain their momentum as they failed to add any more points for the remainder of the game. Despite outshooting their opponents with a total of 30 shots on goal compared to Columbus's 32, Calgary's shooting percentage stood at seven percent, significantly lower than that of Columbus which was sixteen percent.

Calgary's goaltender saved twenty-seven shots but allowed four goals during play and one more on an empty net. On special teams, Calgary struggled on power plays failing to convert any opportunities into goals from their five shots while down a man. Conversely, Columbus capitalized once during their power play chances from ten shots and also scored shorthanded once.

The home team won fifty-seven percent of faceoffs and blocked nineteen shots throughout the game. However, they gave away possession ten times and incurred nineteen penalty minutes including one major penalty which contributed to disrupting their gameplay rhythm.

Columbus showcased efficiency by scoring five goals including an empty-netter which sealed their victory late in the third period. They demonstrated solid defense by blocking twenty attempts from Calgary and winning forty-three percent of faceoffs despite losing more than they won.

As for individual performances from The Flames' side, there were notable efforts but not enough to overcome The Blue Jackets' resilience and strategic execution throughout all three periods.

Looking ahead after this setback at Scotiabank Saddledome before an attendance crowd of 16,689 fans; The Calgary Flames will next take on Chicago Blackhawks at home again at Scotiabank Saddledome located in Calgary (zip code T2G 2W1), Alberta (AB), Canada (CAN). This upcoming match is scheduled for January 28th at Scotiabank Saddledome where fans can tune into ESPN+ or NBCS-CHI channel number six hundred sixty-five for live coverage starting just past midnight local time.
