The Penguins did not go down without a fight; they opened up strong with two goals in the first period but were unable to maintain that momentum through subsequent periods. They managed only one additional goal later on while also taking advantage of one out of five powerplays presented to them during this matchup.


Calgary's physical presence was felt as they delivered more hits than Pittsburgh throughout this encounter – totaling 27 compared to Pittsburgh's 17 hits – showcasing their aggressive style of play which has become part of their identity this season.
