Calgary Flames Outmatched by Carolina Hurricanes' Offensive Onslaught at PNC Arena

At PNC Arena, the Calgary Flames struggled to contain a relentless Carolina Hurricanes offense. Despite an even strength throughout the game, the Flames could not match their opponent's intensity and precision on ice. The Hurricanes outshot them with 40 attempts to their 20 and capitalized on those opportunities by scoring seven goals.

The Flames managed to find the back of the net twice during even-strength play but failed to convert any of their three powerplay chances into goals. Their shooting percentage stood at ten percent compared to an impressive eighteen percent from the Hurricanes. Additionally, while both teams had similar faceoff numbers at seventy-five each, it was clear that faceoff wins did not translate into control of the game for Calgary.

Defensively, Calgary put up a significant effort blocking twenty-two shots but still ended up with a minus-twenty-five plus-minus rating as they watched seven pucks get past their goaltender who made thirty-three saves throughout sixty minutes on ice. In contrast, Carolina's goalie successfully stopped eighteen shots for a save percentage rounding up to one hundred percent.

Special teams were not particularly effective for either side in terms of scoring; however, Calgary's penalty kill did manage to prevent any goals despite facing three shorthanded situations where they made all three saves required.

The physical aspect was evident as well with thirty-one hits delivered by Calgary players which showed their attempt to establish some presence and momentum in this challenging matchup against an opponent that only recorded twenty-one hits.

As fans look ahead after this tough outing for their team, they can mark their calendars for when the Calgary Flames will host Colorado Avalanche at Scotiabank Saddledome on March 13th at 7:00 PM Mountain Time (MT). This upcoming contest will be available for viewing on ESPN+ via internet streaming and ALT network television broadcasts.
