The Hurricanes are coming into this game with a mixed bag of recent performances. On December 24th against the New York Islanders, they fell just short in a high-scoring affair, losing 5-4 despite showing significant prowess on power plays. This loss was particularly stinging as it came on home ice and saw the Canes' goaltender save only 82 percent of shots faced.

However, looking back at their game on December 20th against the Vegas Golden Knights gives fans reason for optimism. The Canes dominated with an impressive 6-3 victory. Their offensive firepower was on full display as they managed to net six goals from just 39 shots – an outstanding shooting percentage of around 15 percent. Moreover, their power play unit capitalized efficiently by scoring three times during opportunities.

The defensive aspect also showed promise; although they conceded three goals, their goaltender had a save percentage close to 91 percent – a reassuring statistic ahead of any matchup.

On the other side of the rink stand the Red Wings who will undoubtedly come prepared and eager for victory themselves. It's crucial that CAR doesn't underestimate DET's ability to capitalize on any given chance.

What might tip this game in favor of CAR is their performance during even-strength play which has been notably strong compared to special teams scenarios where there's room for improvement in both penalty killing and faceoff win percentages.

For fans looking forward to this clash at PNC Arena, it’s clear that if CAR can harness their evident scoring ability while tightening up defensively as seen in past games – especially when playing at even strength – they could very well skate away with another win added to their record.

Remembering that hockey games can swing on small moments and individual brilliance means nothing should be taken for granted until that final buzzer sounds. But one thing is sure: The Hurricanes have shown enough flashes of brilliance recently that suggest they have what it takes to emerge victorious once more before their home crowd.

Fans eager not to miss out on what promises to be an exciting match should mark January 20th in their calendars; puck drop is set for midnight EST at PNC Arena in Raleigh. You can catch all the action live through various broadcast networks including ESPN+ online or BSSO channel number 646-1 locally and BSDET channel number 663 if you're cheering from Detroit territory.
