Hurricanes' Struggles and Key Moments

The Canes found themselves struggling to break through the Caps’ defense throughout much of the game. Despite having a total of 28 shots on goal, they managed only one successful powerplay goal out of four attempts. Jaccob Slavin was instrumental for Carolina, scoring their lone goal with an impressive shooting percentage of 17 percent from his six shots on target.

Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis each contributed an assist during this period, but it wasn't enough to overcome Washington's defensive efforts led by goaltender Logan Thompson who made 27 saves. Frederik Andersen stood firm in net for Carolina with a save percentage of 90 percent but conceded two even-strength goals and one shorthanded.

Capitals’ Defensive Prowess

On the other side, Tom Wilson emerged as a key player for Washington by scoring once and assisting another goal. John Carlson also played a crucial role defensively while contributing offensively with an assist that helped secure their win.

Washington's powerplay efficiency was evident as they capitalized on one out of three opportunities presented during penalties against Carolina’s defense. The Caps were able to maintain pressure through effective faceoff wins—50 percent overall—and strategic plays that kept them ahead throughout all periods.
