Blackhawks Stumble in Newark, Devils Seize Victory with Late Surge

The Chicago Blackhawks, with a season record of 9-19-2, faced off against the New Jersey Devils, who came into the game with a 20-10-3 record. In a contest that saw both teams battling for dominance, it was the Devils who ultimately secured a 4-1 victory. This outcome adds another loss to the Blackhawks' challenging season while propelling the Devils further up in their winning tally.

Game Highlights

The game remained scoreless through the first period as both teams tested each other's defenses and goaltending. It wasn't until the second period that the Blackhawks managed to break through with Jason Dickinson scoring, assisted by Nick Foligno and TJ Brodie. This goal was a highlight for Chicago in an otherwise tough game, showcasing Dickinson's ability to find the back of the net on one of his two shots during his 13:09 time on ice.

However, the third period belonged entirely to New Jersey. The Devils erupted for four goals against Drew Commesso, who had been solid between the pipes for Chicago up until that point. Despite making 20 saves throughout the game and showing resilience under pressure with seven shorthanded saves, Commesso and his team couldn't hold back New Jersey's late-game offensive onslaught.

Player Performances

For Chicago, aside from Dickinson’s goal-scoring effort and Foligno’s assist contributing directly to their lone goal of night; defensive efforts were led by Connor Murphy who registered six hits over his 20:10 time on ice but couldn’t prevent a -1 plus-minus rating alongside several teammates due to New Jersey’s third-period surge.

On defense Alex Vlasic also stood out despite being on ice for two opposing goals; he blocked shots and attempted two shots himself over an extensive 24:06 time on ice indicating significant involvement in playmaking attempts from behind.

New Jersey's victory was spearheaded by standout performances from Jesper Bratt, Dawson Mercer, and Timo Meier – all recognized as stars of the game for their critical roles in turning around what had been an evenly matched contest into a decisive win for their team.

Looking Ahead

The Chicago Blackhawks will look to regroup as they prepare to host The New York Islanders at United Center in Chicago. Fans can catch this match scheduled on December 15th at 3:00 PM EDT across various networks including NHL Network (TV), CHSN (TV), and MSGSN (TV). As they move forward from this defeat against The Devils at Prudential Center in Newark where they struggled particularly during power plays failing all three opportunities; focus will be essential if they aim at improving their standings this season.
