In an intense National Hockey League game at the American Airlines Center, the Colorado Avalanche secured a victory over the Dallas Stars. Despite both teams being unable to score in the first period and maintaining strong defenses, it was during the third period that the Avalanche broke through with an impressive three goals to clinch their win.

The Colorado team's performance was marked by solid goaltending as they saved 38 out of 39 shots on goal, boasting a save percentage of nearly 97 percent. The only goal conceded came during even strength play. On offense, they managed to convert one out of three powerplay opportunities into a goal and successfully landed two even-strength goals from their total shot count of 30.

The game saw significant contributions from several players on both sides. The Avalanche's offense was particularly effective in the third period where all their scoring took place. They also showcased resilience on defense with a total of 18 blocked shots throughout the game and demonstrated tenacity by winning about half (47 percent) of faceoffs despite losing more than they won overall.

On special teams, while both squads had equal powerplay chances at three each, it was only Colorado that capitalized with one powerplay goal. Their penalty kill unit performed admirably too; not allowing any goals across five shorthanded situations which included eleven shots against them.

The home team put up a strong fight as well; however, they struggled to find their scoring touch despite taking more shots than their opponents – totaling at 39 attempts but converting just one into a goal for a shooting percentage around three percent. Their goaltender made saves for most part but allowed two even-strength goals and an empty netter which sealed their fate towards loss credit.

A crowd numbering over twelve thousand witnessed this closely contested match where ultimately discipline played key roles – evidenced by fewer penalties taken by Colorado compared to Dallas' six minutes worth penalty time.
