The match at Prudential Center saw the Avalanche open the scoring in the first period but were unable to maintain their lead as both teams ended the period tied at one goal apiece. Despite a valiant effort from Colorado, including 38 shots on goal and three successful conversions, it was not enough to overcome New Jersey's five goals from just 31 attempts. The Devils capitalized on their chances with an impressive shooting accuracy of eight percent compared to Colorado's eight percent.

Colorado's performance showcased some resilience with four assists contributing to their three goals. However, they struggled in faceoffs throughout the game, winning only 23 out of 62 attempts which translated into a mere thirty-seven percent success rate. Their powerplay opportunities did not yield any goals despite having six shots during these advantages.

Defensively speaking, Colorado blocked twenty shots but still allowed five goals against them; four during even strength play and one more when they pulled their goalie for an extra attacker towards the end of regulation time. Their goaltender made twenty-six saves but ultimately took credit for the loss as he faced thirty shots before being pulled from net.

On special teams play, while successfully killing all penalties without conceding any shorthanded goals – thanks to four saves – Colorado could not capitalize on its own man-advantage situations failing to score despite three powerplay opportunities.

The New Jersey Devils demonstrated why they are formidable opponents this season by winning sixty-three percent of faceoffs and blocking seventeen shots effectively reducing scoring chances for Colorado. Their goalie was particularly outstanding with thirty-five saves ensuring his team secured victory on home ice before an enthusiastic crowd of 16,326 fans.

Looking ahead after this tough outing in Newark city where they fell short despite putting up strong numbers offensively and defensively alike; The next challenge for Colorado Avalanche will be against Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena scheduled for February 9th broadcasted nationally on ESPN+ as well as locally via ALT channel number six hundred eighty-one or BSSO channel number six hundred forty-six dash one depending upon your location.
