The game, held at Little Caesars Arena, saw both teams locked in a defensive battle through the first period with neither side able to break the deadlock. The Avalanche managed to find the net in the second period, taking a one-goal lead that they maintained until late into the third period. Despite numerous attempts on goal, totaling 31 shots throughout the game and boasting an even strength shooting percentage of three percent, it was their only goal scored.

The Avalanche displayed resilience on defense as well, blocking an impressive total of 23 shots and delivering 13 hits over the course of play. Their goaltender made critical saves during regular play time, stopping all but one out of 30 shots faced for a save percentage rounding up to one hundred percent.

However, it was during overtime that fortunes shifted when Detroit capitalized on their opportunity and secured their winning goal. This came despite Colorado's strong performance in faceoffs won during powerplays where they achieved a sixty-seven percent success rate.

On special teams play, both sides had multiple powerplay opportunities; however neither team could convert these chances into goals effectively. The Avalanche had three powerplay opportunities but failed to capitalize on any of them while also successfully killing off all four shorthanded situations they faced.

The Red Wings' victory was aided by their own solid defensive effort which included blocking twenty shots and matching Colorado's physicality with thirteen hits as well. Their goaltender mirrored his counterpart’s performance with thirty saves against thirty-one shots for another rounded save percentage of one hundred percent.

Looking ahead after this hard-fought contest, fans can catch the next game for Colorado Avalanche when they host Toronto Maple Leafs at Ball Arena in Denver on February 25th. This encounter will be available for viewing via ESPN+ online and ALT TV network broadcasts starting from midnight local time onwards.
