Avalanche Set to Tame the Oilers in Edmonton's Glacial Fortress

As the Colorado Avalanche prepare to face off against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place, fans can anticipate a game where recent trends and statistics will play a critical role. The Avalanche, coming off a mixed bag of performances, are looking to assert their dominance on foreign ice.

In their last outing against the Columbus Blue Jackets, despite an impressive 46 shots on goal and maintaining a faceoff win percentage of 56 percent, the Avalanche fell short with only one goal finding the back of the net. Their powerplay opportunities remained uncapitalized, as they failed to convert any of their four chances. This lackluster offensive display was coupled with an uncharacteristic minus-16 plus/minus rating for the game.

However, looking back at their home performance against Nashville Predators provides a stark contrast. The Avalanche erupted for seven goals from 42 shots – showcasing an impressive shooting percentage of 17 percent. Their powerplay was lethal; converting three out of six opportunities indicates that when they click, they can be devastatingly effective.

The defensive aspect also showed signs of strength in that game with goaltending saving all but four shots out of 35 and successfully killing all penalties without conceding goals.

Against New York Rangers prior to that victory, it was a tighter affair with Colorado managing two goals from 40 shots and winning over half (54 percent) of faceoffs. Despite this effort leading them into overtime and subsequently a shootout round, they couldn't clinch victory but secured an overtime loss point thanks to solid goaltending which saw them concede only two goals in regulation time.

These recent games paint a picture of inconsistency yet potential for brilliance within this Colorado team. As they head into Edmonton's territory – where crowd energy at Rogers Place is known to be electric – harnessing their proven offensive firepower while tightening up defensively could be key factors influencing this upcoming contest.

Fans eager to witness whether Colorado can find consistency and come out on top can tune in on April 6th at ESPN+ online or ALT TV network starting from 7:00 MDT as these two teams clash in what promises to be an engaging battle on ice.
